Minecraft Getting your Client Logs

Learn how to find and upload Minecraft client logs and crash reports on Windows and MultiMC to help troubleshoot issues like crashes, lag, and disconnects.

Last updated: July 16, 2025

The Minecraft Client and Server keep separate logs and you may run into errors that require the logs from your Client. Examples would be rendering issues, client crashes, lag, and disconnects.

Windows

Vanilla Launcher

The vanilla launcher stores it’s logs in the %appdata%/.minecraft folder. Follow the steps below to navigate there or locate a custom location.

Default Location

  1. Open the Windows File Manager.
  2. Enter %appdata%/.minecraft into the omnibar.
  3. Open the logs or crash-reports folder.
  4. Recreate the error and upload the text to a website like mcLogs.

Check both the crash-reports folder for newly generated files after recreating the error. The latest.log file in the logs folder will be created every time you start the server.

Custom Location

You can create a custom installation and set the location where the game files are stored. If you’re not sure where you placed that, you can follow the below steps to find it.

  1. Open the launcher and make sure you select “Minecraft: Java Edition”.
  2. Click on the “Installations” tab.
  3. Hover over the installation you want.
  4. Click the folder icon on the right side of the entry.
  5. Open the crash-reports or logs folder.
  6. Recreate the error and upload the text to a website like mcLogs.

Check both the crash-reports folder for newly generated files after recreating the error. The latest.log file in the logs folder will be created every time you start the server.
